I've been told from a reliable source, who works with Peruvian curanderos, that in certain tribes it is custom to give ayahuasca to children as young as 8.

I do have to add, that many tribes use the vine as medicine but without combining it with the DMT-containing leaf. For them it's not necessarily about strong visionary experiences.
